My thing is building homes for the poor

I'm passionate about helping people in need & I'm determined to assist the people of Cambodia, devastated by the Pol Pot regime & in need of homes.

The nature of my goal

I intend to travel to Cambodia and assist in the building of houses for the survivors of the Pol Pot regime, through the Tabitha Foundation. (http://www.tabitha.org.au/cms/tabitha-cambodia.html) Community development is achieved by encouraging personal savings, providing employment and income, and house-building by volunteers for families who cannot afford a home.
The people we will be helping have already saved sufficient to purchase their land, and will take part in building their home with us. This assists them in many ways: It rebuilds their faith in themselves as people, provides them with a previously unobtainable home and leverages the money raised by us. For us volunteers, the reward is seeing the difference we make in another family’s life, and the knowledge that we are helping to rebuild a nation that feels abandoned and hopeless.
As part of our Rangitoto school group, I am committed to raising funds towards our group goal of $25,000 - as well my personal travel-related costs. This is the third time I am involved in fund-raising, having previously been successful in raising sufficient funds to twice attend the World Cheerleading Championships in the USA, as part of Team New Zealand.
